Photo above shows the TA200 with Optional Reversing Light Circuit connected.

You can see the installation is really easy. Simply connect each vehicle light circuit to the input of our towing module (including the earth), then connect the output of our module directly to your towbar socket. There is only one more connection - use the supplied 6 metre red wire to connect directly to the fuse assembly then to the +12V side of the vehicle's battery.

Towbar Towing Modules

(Suitable for trailers, caravans, horse floats etc with & without LED lights)

Why are towing Modules often required on modern vehicles?

The TA300 & TA200 range of Towing Modules contain specialised "Low Pass Filters" in each circuit. These filters prevent any vehicle "test pluses" from "flickering" the LED lights on your trailer/caravan/horse float. Most European vehicles since 2001 & American vehicles since 2006 generate these test pulses as the vehicle's ECU "looks for" blown bulbs. A dashboard light will normally be activated if a blown bulb (or an open or overloaded circuit) is detected.

These towing modules switch all of the current required by the lights of your trailer/caravan/horse float directly from the towing vehicle's battery. This prevents overloading the existing light circuits on your vehicle.

Why buy a Carm International Electronic Towing Module?

  • High current drive;
  • Super easy to fit;
  • Small in size;
  • Drives any combination of filament &/or LED lights;
  • Suits conventional light circuits & single filament tail/brake lights running PWM (pulse width modulation) found on many American & European manufactured vehicles;
  • Comes with a fantastic 3 year warranty;
  • Australian designed & built (by Gore Research Pty Ltd);
  • Support Centre based in Adelaide, South Australia.

Gore Research Pty Ltd manufacture a range of Towing Modules under the Carm International name. These towing modules are designed to be installed on virtually all vehicles including BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Volkswagen, Renault, Peugeot, Citroen, Volvo, Range Rover, Land Rover, Chrysler, Mazda, Toyota, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Isuzu, Ford & Holden ..................... the list goes on (refer to the bottom of this page for information on the Voltswagen Amarok, X5 BMW, 2009 Holden Astra & other vehicles with unusual drive circuits to their rear lights).

These towing modules are inexpensive & are supplied with generic looms. They are super easy to fit, however many customers purchase them & then supply them to their auto-electrcian or tow bar installer.

Installation simply involves connecting the module to the positive side of the vehicle battery (via the supplied loom & fuse), earthing the module to the chassis, connecting the input loom to each of the vehicle's rear lights & the output loom to the trailer connector. It could hardly be made any simpler than this.

To the left is the NEW TA300 with:

1/ Snap in-Snap out connectors that allows for very quick testing/changeover of modules.

2/ Contains PWM detection electronics to simplify installation on many European & American vehicles*.

3/ Available in standard switching circuits (10A) & High Power (HP) switching circuits (20A).

Don't forget - If your existing towing module has failed, as long as your vehicle's rear lights are still operating correctly, you can install our TA200 & TA300 modules.

BMW OEM replacement towing modules often cost $800 & Mercedes replacement towing modules can cost as much as $1500.

This means that by spending around an hour of your time & approx $150, you could be saving many hundreds of dollars over purchasing a replacement OEM towing module.

Some background notes on specific vehicles:

Some vehicles like the Holden Astra (2009-current model) have a single rear bulb that glows dully for a tail light & brightly for a brake light. Select the TA300 towing module for this vehicle as it contains PWM detection circuitry.

The Volkswagen Amarok, Touareg, Tiguan, Golf & Jetta (2002-current model) utilise pulse width modulate (PWM) for their rear combined brake/tail light filament. Again, due to the special design features of the TA300 Towing Module, this can be connected to these vehicles. Just 3 input wires need to be connected when using the "Lazy Method" as described in the instructions. This makes for very quick installations indeed!

For the BMW X5 (2001-current model) please order the Towing Module TA300 Towing Module. These vehicles all run PWM (pulse width modulation). Just 3 input wires need to be connected when using the "Lazy Method" as described in the instructions. This makes for very quick installations indeed!

For the BMW X1 please order the Towing Module TA300 Towing Module. These vehicles all run PWM (pulse width modulation). We need to know if you are installing the towing module to an X1 as the PWM is different to other models. Again the 3 wire input "Lazy Method" works with the X1.

The Audi Quattro 4WD (2002-current model) can have either the TA200 or TA300 Towing Module installed. The Quattro 2002 (& later) run a single bulb with 2 separate filaments (for the tail light & the brake light). No pulse width modulation (PWM) is utilised on these models.

The Mercedes ML350 4WD (2010-current model) should be installed with the Towing Module

TA300-L. The rear lights of the ML350 are LEDs.

For the Mercedes Vito van please select the TA300 Towing Module.

The correct Towing Module to suit the Range Rover (2002-current model) is the TA300-L.

The correct Towing Module to suit the Land Rover (2002-current model) is the TA300-L.

The correct Towing Module to suit the Ford Ranger / Mazda BT50 (2008-current model) is the TA200.

On the ordering page there is an input field so that you can let us know the model of your vehicle. This will help us select the Towing Module model to best suit your vehicle.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Reversing Sensors

The reason the TA300/TA200/TA100 Towing Modules can successfully be installed to so many different vehicles is because the vehicle's electronics is unaware that a trailer/caravan has been connected. This ensures that no bulb failure (or circuit overload) warnings come up on the dashboard. This is particularly important for many European vehicles (from 2001 onwards) and American vehicles (from 2006 onwards). Three popular options to turn off the rear reversing sensors when towing is to either:

1/ Many vehicles now allow the driver to manually turn off the reversing sensors on the dashboard control screen.

2/ Install a rear towing connector that incorporates a “magnetic reed switch” to automatically disconnect the earth (or +12V) to the sensors when the connector flap is opened to insert the trailer plug. Narva manufacture several connectors for this purpose.

3/ An alternative is to install a manual switch to turn off the earth (or +12V) to the rear reversing sensors. This switch is turned to the "off position" when towing a trailer/caravan.
