"My 21 month old rescue dog was spayed at Spay Now. They took good care of our little girl; and the prices were very reasonable! We picked her up and went home with the proper meds. It’s 8 days out now and she’s doing great! I’m so grateful we found this place!"

"Wonderful friendly staff. I have brought all 3 of my dogs here for dental cleaning several times. The wait is very long for a dental appointment but it's well worth it and the fee for the dental cleaning is quite reasonable when compared with other quality facilities. The staff is helpful and its evident how much they care for the pets entrusted to them. I recommend this facility and will continue to patronize it."

"The staff are very friendly and helpful. This is my first time to spay a dog. But Panda recovery in no time. It’s only five days, now she’s happy and very playful. The surgery went well. This is the best place if someone wants to spay or nudge their cats or dogs. I’m highly recommended."

"Working through Laurel Cats, Spay Now has been assisting us in getting our feral cat community spayed/neutered. I’ve taken 2 cats there and have had positive results. The cats were returned in good health and the staff has been very friendly and caring. Great job!"

Spay Now Laurel Animal Surgery Clinic - 7401 Van Dusen Road, Laurel, Maryland 20707 - Guide (2025)

FAQs

What do vets do when they spay? ›

Ovariohysterectomy—the typical "spay": In female pets, the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and uterus are removed. This makes the animals unable to reproduce. Removing the ovaries eliminates the main source of hormones that drive the female's heat cycle and behavior related to the breeding instinct.

What is a spay at the vet? ›

Spaying is the removal of the ovaries and usually the uterus of a female animal. Neutering is the removal of the testes in a male animal. Neutering and spaying procedures render pets unable to reproduce.

How much is it to get a dog spayed in Tennessee? ›

Services & Fees
Cat Neuter$40
Cat Spay$50
Dog Neuter$55
Dog Spay$65
Feral Cat Spay or Neuter$25

How long should a female dog rest after being spayed? ›

It is generally recommended to spay a dog before their first heat, around the age of 6 months, although there are exceptions in certain situations. Dog spay recovery typically takes between 10 to 14 days, during which the dog should be kept calm with limited activity.

Do female dogs calm down after being spayed? ›

The short answer is that no, your dog isn't likely to be less hyperactive after getting spayed or neutered. It won't change their personality much, if at all. Each dog has its own positive and negative social habits.

What is the best age to spay a female dog? ›

Larger breeds sometimes do not start their first heat until they're closer to 12 months of age or beyond. It is recommended that you spay your female dog between 6 to 9 months of age, preferably before a heat cycle to reduce the future risk of mammary cancer.

Can I carry my dog after being spayed? ›

You might be wondering if it's okay to lift your dog after spaying. The short answer is yes, but it's essential to approach it with care. Your pup's tummy might be a bit sore, so paying attention to how you lift is crucial. The goal is to keep them comfortable while ensuring you don't accidentally cause any harm.

How long does a spay take to heal? ›

Recovery After Spaying Surgery

Most pets will start to feel better in 24 - 48 hours, but full recovery takes between 10 to 14 days. During this period you should aim to keep your pet calm and refrain from allowing them to jump, as this could cause the incision to reopen.

Why is my dogs spay so expensive? ›

Spay surgeries cost more than neuters because the veterinarian must work inside the abdomen, which takes more time and skill and requires a larger incision.

Is it worth getting a female dog spayed? ›

Your female pet will live a longer, healthier life.

Spaying prevents uterine infections and decreases the incidence of breast tumors, which are malignant or cancerous in about 50 percent of dogs and 90 percent of cats. Spaying your pet before her first heat offers the best protection from these diseases.

Is spay worth it? ›

Spaying female dogs and cats eliminates the possibility of uterine or ovarian cancer and greatly reduces the incidence of breast cancer. Neutering male dogs and cats reduces the incidence of prostate cancer. Neutered animals are less likely to roam and fight.
