A Valentine’s Day tea party is such a fun and sweet way to celebrate one of the cutest holiday!
Valentine’s Day is a fun holiday to enjoy with kids! It’s adorable. There aren’t a lot of seasonal events planned for this time of year, besides valentine exchanges, and honestly… a valentine exchange is pretty dang easy to participate in. (I made it even easier by printing our valentines at home!)
Hosting a Valentine’s Day Tea Party for Kids
Instead of a forced romance holiday (my husband and I would rather go on a date any OTHER night than when everyone else is, ha!), our family treats Valentine’s Day as an excuse for adding just a touch of fun to an otherwise ordinary day. We do usually (but not always, because V-Day is low-pressure!) give each other little notes and/or a simple gift.
We often host a valentine exchange for other preschoolers and/or homeschoolers which is also super fun. Hosting a Valentine’s tea party is a fun way to do this, but there’s no rule you have to invite anyone – a Valentine’s Day tea party for 2 is just as fun!
Tea parties for kids have a magic all their own! Sprinkle in a pinch of Valentine’s Day fun and poof – it’s a tradition you will look forward to every single year.
Decoration Ideas for your Valentine’s Day Tea Party
For decorations, we laid out a white tablecloth and I used bits and pieces from a paper crafting kit that was 50% off (this one, although it wasn’t 50% off anymore when I last checked!) and after the tea party, I repacked them in the box to use for crafting later. At a later date, I turned the kids loose to make whatever valentines crafts they wanted!
I had also purchased a single bag of naturally-colored, heart-shaped jelly beans from Trader Joe’s and sprinkled them on the table and serving pieces! Edible decorations were a big hit with my kiddos. 🙂
Other simple decorations could include hearts cut out by hand from supplies around the house such as felt, construction paper, or scrapbook paper!
Aside from that, the tea cups and my mom’s depression glass were really all the other decor we needed! If you don’t have tea cups and saucers can you still have a tea party? Yes! It’s just as fun to have a tea party with coffee mugs!
What To Serve at a Valentine’s Day Tea Party
Perhaps the best part of a Valentine’s Tea Party is the food and drink!
I had way too much fun going totally bonkers with these multi-size heart-shaped cookie cutters turning everything from tuna salad sandwiches and PB & Js to cheese and lunch meat into heart-shaped cuteness.
What do you have on hand? I recommend starting there! Your child will be totally impressed by whatever you put together for them because it’s a tea party – not because you slaved for hours cooking something elegant. If it’s cheese sticks and cucumber slices, that sounds like a pretty nice tea party snack to me!
If I’d had tortillas around, I think cutting little heart-shaped quesadillas would be adorable too!
For drinking, we served a hot tea and an iced one. You could also serve lemonade if you aren’t sure how your kids will like tea! Chocolate milk or cocoa would make for a fun and tasty tea party drink too.
We also served fruit and some fantastic almond flours scones that my mom made, along with clotted cream.
For dessert, there were chocolate heart-shaped cookies from Trader Joe’s and chocolate dipped strawberries that my mom and I dipped about 10 mins before we sat down. We chilled them in the fridge for a few minutes and they were perfect!
Something else to keep in mind, this doesn’t have to happen on Valentine’s Day exactly.. it could easily be a bit before or after!
