You might not have heard of the relatively new holiday, so here’s a bit of its background.
Where did Galentine’s day come from and what is galentine’s meaning?
Galentine’s has become increasingly common in the past few years, mainly because of the insanely popular comedy show, Parks and Recreation.
I am a bit biased, as this is one of my favorite shows of all time, and the Galentine’s episode is one of my favorites.
Basically, it centers around the main character, Leslie Knope played by Amy Poehler, creating this holiday.
In her words, Galentine’s happens “Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and boyfriends at home and just come and kick it breakfast style, ladies celebrate ladies.”
It’s a day to spend time with your best girlfriends and celebrate a twist on Valentine’s day without the pressure of the holiday for significant others.
Restaurants, events, card companies have hopped on the Galentine’s day trend with specials available all over for the event.
Female friendships have always had their stereotypes, whether it’s drama, or catty people. But this holiday and the female empowerment movement has hoped to change that.
It’s a day to celebrate and empower female friendships and how important they are. That’s the galentine’s meaning.

Unlike its’ show origin, you might not want to create a personalized 5,000 word essay on why your friends are awesome, even though they definitely are.

Galentines Day Gift Exchange
Especially if you are getting together with a larger group of friends, buying or making a gift for everyone might not be the most financially feasible.

Put all your names on paper(or an online generator) and pair each of your friends up with each other. I love gift exchanges because they show the creativity in the gifts, and allow for more effort to be put in.

Who doesn’t love gift baskets? I always thought they were an easy way out of a gift, but as I got older I learned how wrong I was. They are a thoughtful gift whether you buy them premade, or you make a personalized basket yourself.
Homemade: A great place to find cute, but inexpensive baskets and items to include in your basket in person is a place like TJ Maxx, Homegoods or Target if you want to shop in person, or tried and true Amazon.
Find a nice basket, add some filler with gift paper or confetti, grab some themed candies or your friends favorite as a base and assemble your type of basket. These places are great for finding inexpensive but attractive looking gifts to add into the basket.
Skincare or fragrances are always a good option, as well well as food baskets. No matter what you put in, or how many things you get, they always look so put together and like you put a lot of effort in them and make for a fantastic galentine gift idea.
